The Red Bull Art of Can is an art competition that is open to everyone regardless of age or artistic background. Artists, students, grandparents and all of those in-between are invited to participate, although the competition is expected to attract more creative types of all ages and occupations from students to industrial designers and professional artists to teachers.
Flying in the face of traditional art media, contestants taking part in this unique contest have to abide by only one single rule – they need to incorporate the famous blue and silver Red Bull cans from the Austrian Energy Drink giant along with some inspiration and a lot of imagination to conceive and produce an original work art. The final artwork could be anything from a sculpture, to a collage, jewellery, furniture, fashion accessory or interactive art!
The event will culminate in a 10-day exhibition to be held at the brand new *SCAPE building just off Orchard Road, and is expected to showcase a wide variety of art made from recycled materials. For the Singapore event, an estimated 30-50 pieces are expected to be selected for the final exhibit, which will take place between 2- 11 July 2010.
The judges will award special honors to the top three artists/pieces, including the grand prize of a trip for two to Berlin, Germany, one of the world’s leading art cities. Second place winner receives a weekend trip for two to Melbourne, Australia’s premier city for arts and culture, while third place takes home a Canon DSLR camera.
Anyone interested in participating in Red Bull Art of Can Singapore can register online here from 1 March to May 15. Submissions must reach Red Bull Singapore by no later than 15 May and submitted artwork will not be returned.
