In 2010, TheatreWorks celebrates its 25th anniversary as one of Singapore’s longest running theatre companies, and as a dynamic international performance company. Led by Artistic Director Ong Keng Sen, the company is looking to appoint a full-time Production Stage Manager and Technical Manager to execute its programme from end 2010 to 2011.

POSITION 1: PRODUCTION STAGE MANAGER
Duration: One year full-time based in Singapore, renewable thereafter
Commencement: November 2010
Job Scope:
• Realising the company’s productions within the agreed budget and available resources
• Scheduling and managing pre-production timelines and production schedules to maximise efficiency and minimise staff costs; also overseeing the recruitment and management of casual production crew
• Overseeing the realisation of all physical production elements, ensuring these are created/constructed to the highest possible standards and are fit for purpose
• Support of and liaison with the production creative teams and producing personnel
• Ensuring at all times a safe working environment and compliance with all Health & Safety and licensing regulations, including liaison with relevant authorities to acquire any permits and licenses
• Ensuring effective financial management including the consistent following of financial procedures and providing budgetary information when required
• With the Administrative Executive, ensuring that the company’s technical equipment, resources and facilities are properly maintained and managed
• Ensures the quality of the productions in adherence to standards set by the Artistic Director and Managing Director
• Supervises the preparation, organisation, and running of productions in the rehearsal venues, on stage and on tour
• Liaising between the creative team and other company staff, ensuring that all production and rehearsal information is communicated and recorded
• Calls and chairs production meetings as and when required
• Schedules artists for rehearsals, and assist the Artistic Director in rehearsal during the sessions
• Write up reports after each rehearsal/performance and ensure that they are distributed and that any appropriate action required is undertaken before the next rehearsal/performance
• Be responsible for preparing and being on the prompt book for each performance

Essential Qualifications:
• Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in a professional performing arts setting
• Relevant professional qualifications or training in the performing arts
• Excellent command of written and spoken English
• Strong interpersonal skills, cultural awareness and ability to effectively communicate with individuals from diverse backgrounds and nationalities
• Supervisory and leadership skills, demonstrated by prior experience of having run a department
• Good command of Microsoft Office applications and Mac OS X
• Familiar with Autocad plan reading/drawing

POSITION 2: TECHNICAL MANAGER
Duration: One year full-time based in Singapore, renewable thereafter
Commencement: November 2010
Job scope:
• Assess the feasibility and cost implication of the production design, and in conjunction with the Managing Director and other company staff find technical solutions
• Ensure at all times a safe working environment and compliance with all Health & Safety and licensing regulations, including liaison with relevant authorities to acquire any permits and licenses
• Supervises the arrangements for, and effective and efficient operation of the load-in/loadout, technical rehearsals, sound checks and installations, including designating appropriate manpower
• Supervise all aspects of design, construction and technical support of events and activities
• Supervise and instruct casual production staff in the use of technical equipment, including orientation to the latest equipment, techniques and working practices
• Ensure the maintenance of the physical production elements during the run of each production
• Ensure that control is exercised over budget/expenditure, in conjunction with the Managing Director and other company staff
• Maintain the serviceability and tidiness of the company’s venue and inventory, in conjunction with the Administrative Executive
• Provide professional advice in the procurement of new permanent inventory and consumables

Essential Qualities:
• Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in technical theatre, across lighting, video, sound and staging departments
• Relevant professional qualifications or training in technical theatre
• Good command of written and spoken English
• Strong interpersonal skills, cultural awareness and ability to effectively communicate with individuals from diverse backgrounds and nationalities.
• Supervisory and leadership skills, demonstrated by prior experience of having run a department
• Good command of Microsoft Office applications and Mac OS X
• Excellent command of Autocad plan reading/drawing, and ability to interpret technical requirements from artists
• Knowledge of Health and Safety at work
• Familiar with theatre set construction, for instance carpentry

TheatreWorks, established in 1985, is an international performance company based in Singapore. Under the artistic direction of Ong Keng Sen, the company is known for its reinvention of traditional performance and cross-cultural interdisciplinary approach; it creates
highly expressive works that reflects the identities of contemporary Asia within the twenty-first century global culture.

In 1996, the company pioneered the Flying Circus Project, a biennial art laboratory programme that has since become an internationally recognized and sought-after R&D process. In 1999, it initiated Arts Network Asia , a capacity-building grant body that supports arts and cultural exchanges/projects across and within Asia.

Since 2005, the company has assumed residence at 72-13 in Singapore, where it converted a rice warehouse as an arts space flexible enough to be a gallery/cinema/theatre. Its primary purpose is to encourage collaborations and dialogue; house residences from creatives around the world; and to encourage hybrid creative expressions from young Singaporeans. Initiatives include the Creatives-in-Residence (CIR) programme that supports creatives/artists from across disciplines (contemporary performance, documentary film, fashion, new media, visual arts and others) as well as Writer’s Lab, Singapore’s long-running programme for young/emerging playwrights.
